On the afternoon of April 19th, the 10th teaching salon organized by the School of Liberal Arts (Language and Culture Center) was held as scheduled at 913A Sanjiang Building. In this teaching salon, Professor Cui Xiliang from Beijing Language and Culture University was specially invited to give an academic report titled "Artificial Intelligence and International Chinese Language Education", and to discuss with the young teachers present the opportunities and challenges faced by international Chinese language education under the influence of artificial intelligence. The salon has attracted nearly a hundred young teachers, undergraduate and graduate students from relevant majors such as the School of Literature, the School of Foreign Languages, and the School of Teacher Education to participate in the interaction. Professor Ren Xiaofei, Dean of the School of Liberal Arts (Language and Culture Center), presided over the salon.

Firstly, Professor Cui Xiliang pointed out that the development of artificial intelligence has changed the world, and the emergence of ChatGPT has had an immeasurable impact on many industries, including international Chinese education. As a large-scale language model, ChatGPT can not only assist us in teaching and research such as class preparation, textbook writing, dictionary writing, synonym analysis, knowledge Q&A, literature review, and providing suggestions, but also change our learning methods and paths, thereby improving our learning efficiency. Therefore, keeping up with the times and fully utilizing and exerting the positive role of artificial intelligence products has practical significance.

Then, Professor Cui introduced the functions and applications of ChatGPT in language ontology analysis, teaching method analysis, syntax analysis, semantic relationship analysis, semantic analysis, ambiguity analysis, emotion analysis and other aspects in combination with classic examples in international Chinese teaching, such as "yaosi le lieren de gou" and "ta chadianer mei shuaidao".

Afterwards, Professor Cui conducted a thorough analysis of the limitations and shortcomings of current artificial intelligence products such as ChatGPT, and pointed out that so far, artificial intelligence cannot possess complete thinking abilities like humans. Professor Cui emphasized that although artificial intelligence can already mimic human thinking abilities in certain aspects through reinforcement learning and deep learning, these processes are based on pre-set goals and training. Therefore, Professor Cui reminds teachers and students that when using artificial intelligence products such as ChatGPT, they need to have the ability to make independent judgments, correctly view its advantages and disadvantages, and fully recognize that ChatGPT is both an opportunity and a challenge for international Chinese language education.

Professor Cui Xiliang's speech sparked a strong response and active discussion among the young teachers attending the salon. There was a heated discussion with Professor Cui about the methods, objectives, and significance of language education, and undergraduate and graduate students present also actively participated in the discussion. The atmosphere on site was lively and relexed. After discussions, everyone agreed that in the near future, we will see more similar artificial intelligence technologies widely applied in international Chinese education and more deeply integrated with international Chinese education, promoting the further improvement of language education quality, providing a better learning experience for global Chinese learners, and allowing more people to easily and efficiently learn Chinese.
