On the afternoon of December 1st, School of Teacher Education conducted an instructional salon at Room 1806 of Sanjiang Building. The salon was hosted by Dr. Kang Cui, and the persons attending the salon includes all the teachers ans some students from the Department of Educational Technology, some teachers from the Department of Education, Prof. Xu Kangmei and Prof. Zhang Qian, who were instructional supervisors of Jiangsu University.
The instruction salon centered around the “exploration and application of new instruction methods”, and invited associate prof. Zhu Yi from Department of Communication Engineering to deliver a speech. Prof. Zhu gave detailed descriptions on implementing instructional reform by applying VR technologies to enhance the experience of online classes and to manage such classes, and he also showed the process of real VR-enhanced instruction. Furthermore, Prof. Zhu took CPS Technology and Maker as example, introduced the work of his team in exploring and practicing maker education, and showed how the lessons promoted students’ abilities in integrating & transferring knowledge, and in application & innovation.
By presenting advanced instructional thoughts, concrete cases and vivid presentation, the speech aroused the interest of all participants. After the speech, teachers and students held a heated discussion with prof. Zhu concerning the selection of VR platform, the organization of the instructional process, the comparison between traditional instruction and VR-enhanced online instruction, the future trend of VR in education, etc..
Teachers attending the salon expressed their opinions about the salon, saying that the salon was a fruitful one, and instructional ideals needed to be updated to embrace future technologies so as to improve instructional efficiency.
