On March 25, Ma Fangfang, a first prize winner of Jiangsu University Faculty Teaching Competition, successfully conducted a demonstration class in Room 202 of the Teaching Complex. The lecture is entitled “Westernization Movement”, which is part of the Outline of Modern and Contemporary Chinese History. The demonstration class was presided over by Dai Yinghua, Dean of the Teaching and Research Section of History Outline. Representatives of the faculty and faculty members of the School in their period of teaching assistantship participated in the event.
The demonstration class given by Ma highlighted the “Westernization” in modern Chinese history, when China started to emulate the western countries. She made it easy for the participants to understand the reasons, conditions and representative figures of the Westernization Movement by using plain words to expound the profound knowledge. Throughout the class, Ma went on with her lecture smoothly and well-prepared. Her PPT was well designed to create a light atmosphere for the interaction between the faculty and students. Particularly, Ma adopted the three teaching methods, namely Question & Answer, Contextualization and Association. She tried to attract the students’ attention with “details”, and moved students with affection. The teaching effect was fairly good. Although students seemed to be a little hurried in the course of taking notes and answering questions, they would enjoy the whole process through their dialogue with the teacher and their classroom performance.
After the class was over, Dean Dai commented on Ma’s lecture, who sang a high praise for her lecture, analyzing the future orientation of the teaching reform in the history outline course based on Ma’s lecture. The participants said that they would actively learn from Ma’s teaching experience, namely moving students with affection, educating students by means of law, and cultivating students with morality. They also extended the wishes to transform the teaching contents into understanding, emotion and motivation.
