On the morning of April 12, 2021, the School of Liberal Arts held a demonstration course entitled “Introduction to TCSOL” in Room 3501 of Jingjiang Building. Huang Xueyun, a young faculty member of the TCSOL Department, gave the lecture to the audience. Huang adopted the approaches of lead-in and QA to guide students to look back upon the history and look into the future of the TCSOL. A number of young and middle-aged faculty members of the School of Liberal Arts attended the demonstration class.
This demonstration class is divided into three parts, namely History of the Teaching Methodology of TCSOL, Current Situation and Development Trend. To begin with, Huang gave a brief overview of the three stages of the teaching methodology of TCSOL and its main characteristics, analyzing the typical teaching methods in each stage. Then, Huang described the current situation of the teaching methodology of TCSOL, highlighting the variegated teaching methods of TCSOL at present. To conclude his lecture, Huang systematically introduced the five methods typical of the Chinese language teaching. Huang stressed that the design of TCSOL should be based on the fundamental conception that “language is a tool of communication”, oriented towards the Chinese learners, and a teacher of Chinese must be acquainted with the characteristics and learning needs of Chinese learners. Huang’s lecture was well acclaimed by the students.
Toward the end of the class, the faculty members who had listened to the lecture exchanged their opinions on this demonstration class. It is believed that further discussion will be carried out on the demonstration class, a sound academic atmosphere of integrating “research” into “teaching” will be created, and improvement will be made on the classroom instruction capability of the School faculty.
