In order to adapt to the internationalization of education and improve the teaching ability of the junior faculty in the school using English as a medium of instruction (EMI), the school of physics and electronic engineering successfully hosted The 1st EMI Competition at 401, Practice Building on November 1st, 2021. The school invited faculty members with award-winning experience in and above provincial teaching competitions as judges including Xu Chenguang the director of the physics experiment center, Shi Lijuan the deputy director of the physics experiment center, Zhang Peipei the branch secretary of the department of university physics, and Shang Xuefu the deputy director of the department of microelectronics. A part of the junior faculty in the school also attended the competition as audience.
In total 3 young teachers participated in the EMI competition by voluntary signing up and department recommendation. They prepared their teaching schemes individually on 3 different themes including Measurement of Sound Velocity, Millikan Oil Drop Experiment, and Uncertainty Principle. All of them were able to earn affirmation and praise from the judges with their well-designed lessons of fluency, innovation, and integration with ideological and political elements. The participating junior faculty fully demonstrated the brilliant teaching style of the school.
After the competition, the judges raised precious opinions over the expressions, designations, methods, and integration with ideological and political elements of the school’s EMI teaching, pointing out the direction for the junior faculty. With constant effort, our junior faculty participants are sure to be achieving good results in the EMI competition held by the university.
