On November 10, the School of Mathematical Sciences held the open class “Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics” . Yang Jie, from the department of financial mathematics, lectured this course at room 510, Sanshan Building. More than 10 teachers from the school observed this open class.
“Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics” is a public basic course for science and engineer students, which includes some basic concepts, theories and methods. In the class, Ms. Yang first reviewed the conditional probability and multiplication formula with students, and then introduced the total Probability Rule and the Bayes Formula by guiding students to research and solve examples step by step. In the selection of examples, Ms. Yang used the example of students' grades to deduce the important relationship between final grades and usual efforts, used the example of "wolf story" to show the sudden reduction of credit caused by "lying" and the slow accumulation of credit caused by "telling the truth", and used the nuclear acid detection cases to explained the priori probability and a posteriori probability, and the significance of medical recheck.
With the rigorous logic, the problem-based learning, vivid and interesting examples, the open class was highly praised by both teachers and students.
