Story of Teaching Salon——School of Materials Science and Engineering successfully holds teaching salon

On the afternoon of March 17, 2021, the teaching salon entitled “Sharing the Experience of the Construction of First-class Courses” was held in the Conference Room (308) of the Materials Building by the School of Materials Science and Engineering. The salon was aimed at promoting the comprehensive construction of first-class undergraduate courses, establishing the new concept of course construction, pushing the course reform and innovation, upgrading the teaching capability of the faculty. The curriculum is the core element of talent training, and the quality of curriculum directly determines the quality of talent training.

In the past three years, the School of Materials Science and Engineering has established 1 national online first-class course, 1 online and 1 offline first-class course, 6 provincial excellent online open courses, 6 University-level first-class courses and 4 University-level online open courses. Therefore, School of Automobiles Deputy Dean Geng Guoqing and School of Mechanical Engineering Associate Professor Huang Juan were invited to share the experience of first-class course construction, and Teaching Affairs Office Deputy Director Xue Hongli was invited to interpret the regulations concerning the application for a first-class course. The salon was presided over by School of Materials Deputy Dean Yan Xuehua. The persons in charge of provincial excellent online open courses, University-level first-class courses and online open courses, as well as the faculty member being receiving the training of assistant lecturership, participated in the activity.

Taking the national first-class course “Automobile Structure” as an example, Geng Guoqing shared the experience of first-class course construction from the aspects of teaching design, teaching plan and lesson presentation. Huang Juan introduced the construction experience of THE course “Engineering Graphics”, stressing the heeds that need to be paid to the first-class course construction from the perspective of application assessment. Xue Hongli explained the key points for the construction of 5 types of first-class courses, the application and evaluation flows of first-class courses, etc. The participants discussed and exchanged their ideas on the issues concerning the first-class course construction. To conclude, Yan Xuehua pointed out the necessity of early planning, early operation, and early accumulation, meanwhile stressing the fundamental task of moral education and the trend of output orientation in the course of the first-class course construction.

This teaching salon focuses on how to build a first-class course, which will play a positive role in further updating the teaching concept and promoting the construction of the first-class courses of the School.
