On June 3, the Center for Faculty Development held the 1st “Afternoon Tea” Teaching Workshop. This is an effort launched by the Center to explore a new model for teaching training by promoting the faculty exchanges, pooling the innovative ideas of different teachers, and enhancing their teaching capability. The workshop is entitled “Perception of Teaching Innovation”. Sun Jing of the School of Pharmacy delivered a keynote lecture. More than 20 faculty members from 12 schools or colleges on campus participated in the discussion.
Sun had lately participated in 6th Annual Meeting for Higher Education Innovation & 8th Huihu Symposium on the Internationalization of Higher Education (2021). He introduced to the workshop participants the latest trends of teaching innovation he had learned at the international conference. Based on his own teaching experiences, Sun made a keynote speech entitled “Innovating and Reforming Teaching Methodology by Means of ‘Promoting Teaching Through Education’”. The speaker not only demonstrated the many sample teaching designs he had adopted, but also held a heated discussion with the participants on the practical implementation of and difficulties confronting the interactive classroom instruction.
The teaching workshop was conducted by means of an afternoon tea, which provided a new platform for faculty exchanges. A relaxed environment was created for teachers to hold discussions on issues concerning classroom instruction. The free exchanging of ideas sparked their teaching potentials and built up their confidence in classroom instruction. In the future, the Center for Faculty Development will organize more workshops of this kind so as to construct a broader platform for faculty exchanges.
