On December1st, the ideological and political education demo class of “Integrated English”was successfully held in Room 315 of Sanshan Building. Sponsored by School of Foreign Languages, the demo class was lectured by Li Xia from the English Department. Teachers from English Department and College English Department attended the class.
“Integrated English”is a crucial specialized course for English majors. The demo class focused on the the unit theme “knowledge and wisdom” and integrated three teaching objectives of cognition, emotion and skills. Ms. Li adopted BOPPPS teaching design in the teaching. She successfully attracted students' curiosity and learning interests by using games， videos and pictures as lead-in. By comparing Hitler and Confucius, students initially grasped the differences between knowledge and wisdom. During class, Ms. Li and students co-explored the ancient Chinese Confucianism wisdom of “unity” as well as Chinese wisdom of the new era---“community of shared future for mankind” , “One Belt And One Road Initiative” and “peace and development”, which promoted students’ humanistic literacy and awareness of cultural confidence and national pride. Students actively participated in a variety of learning activities such as group discussion, role playing and so on and was checked through in-class quizzes and questions. In the end, teachers and students summarized what they had learned together. The open class combined morality with teaching and imperceptibly guided the students to become a wise person, which is highly praised by the participating teachers and students.
