Li Xia, from the English education department of the school of foreign languages, lively lectured two periods of “English Curriculum and Teaching Theory” course at room 415, Sanshan Building on May 26th. More than 20 teachers from the school of foreign languages and other schools observed this open class and discussed heatedly after class.
In the class, Ms. Li adopted the POA (Production-Oriented Approach) teaching mode and took unit 11 “Teaching Reading” as the teaching theme. The teaching contents covered the following five aspects: ways that people read, strategies involved in reading, roles of vocabulary in reading, principles & models for teaching reading and types of activities in teaching reading. The teacher inspired students’ thinking by engaging students in reflection, discussion, exploration and other activities. With the motivating and enabling scaffolding of the teacher, the students constructed their new teaching concept, updated their cognition of teaching reading and the ability to analyze and solve problem, which laid a solid foundation for their future English teaching in primary and secondary school.
With the clear teaching objectives, the prominent teaching focus, the effective combination of theory and practice, the close teacher-student/student-student interaction and the active class atmosphere, the open class was highly praised by both teachers and students present.
