Experimental teaching is one of the most important part of undergraduate teaching. Thus, the teaching laboratory is an important base to help undergraduates to combine theory and practice, to develop their innovative consciousness and innovative ability, and also to improve their practical ability. To a certain degree, the quality of undergraduate laboratories’ construction and operation reflects the educational capacity, teaching quality, and scientific research level of a university. In order to further improve the construction and operation of the undergraduate teaching laboratory, and improve students' scientific research and practical ability, the School of Agricultural Engineering held a teaching salon with the theme "The construction and operation of undergraduate laboratory" in the conference room 1116 of Leisi building on the afternoon of October 19, 2021. All young teachers in the teaching division, teaching Secretary Zhao Yuguo, director of the central laboratory Shi Qiang, and teachers' representatives of the School of Electrical Engineering attended the event. The salon was hosted by Song Jinxiu, deputy director of the Department of Facility Agriculture Science and Engineering.
Two teachers, Pan Tonghua and Lu Xin, exchanged experience on how to construct and operate an undergraduate laboratory, as well as how to improve the innovative and practical ability of undergraduates. Firstly, Pan Tonghua shared a report entitled "Experience in the construction and operation of agricultural undergraduate laboratories in comprehensive university". He shared his experiences and opinions on how to construct a laboratory (including preliminary planning, funding application approval, instrument demonstration, price inquiry and online bidding, instruments receipt and acceptance, fixed assets and reimbursement, etc.), and operate the laboratory. He also put forward the existing problems and solutions. Then, Lu Xin mainly introduced the undergraduate teaching laboratory construction of the first-class undergraduate major, agricultural mechanization and its automation, as well as the preparatory construction of course teaching laboratory of the new undergraduate major, agricultural equipment intelligent engineering. He pointed out the existing problems, such as the disconnection of undergraduate course teachers and the experiment personnel, the unreasonable of experimental structure, and the difficulty to organically integrate the classroom teaching and practice teaching, etc. Finally, he put forward the future development direction of these laboratories, and the ideas for the upgrading of the software and hardware construction of the undergraduate teaching laboratory.
Shi Qiang, the director of the college’s central laboratory, commented on this salon. He affirmed the current laboratory construction achievements, replied to the questions raised by the teachers, pointed out some other problems that still exist on laboratory construction, and put forward the future development direction and requirements of the undergraduate laboratory. With the rapid development of the school, it is believed that the hardware and software construction of the undergraduate laboratory will be gradually upgraded and improved in the future.
This salon lasted for nearly two hours. All participating teachers also actively expressed their opinions and agreed that they gained a lot from the salon. It greatly promoted the construction and operation of the undergraduate teaching laboratory.
