A teaching salon was successfully held at the school of Foreign Languages with the theme of “Retrospect and Prospect of the Construction of Course-based Ideological and Political Education of the College English Course in Jiangsu University” on April 26th. With Professor Wu Peng, deputy dean of the school of Foreign Languages as the keynote speaker, the salon was to summarize the five-year construction of course-based ideological and political education of the College English course in Jiangsu University. Professor Xie Zhifang, Secretary of Party Committee of the school of Foreign Languages, Mr. Chang Zhibin, Chief of the Teahing and Research Section and Associate Professor Zhang Qi’an, the Teaching Supervisor were invited as guest speakers. Faculty of the school of Foreign Languages were present.
Professor Wu Peng first summarized the process and achievements of the construction of course-based ideological and political education of College English course in Jiangsu University from 2017 till now. He also reflected on the insufficiency of the construction which will be complemented in the future. Meanwhile, a new approach is to be adopted with the objective of cultivating students’ Global Competence through teaching processes of the College English course. According to Wu, the core ideas of the new approach reflect new requirements of the 20th CPC national congress on College education and courses of foreign languages. At the end of his talk, Wu declared the constitution of the new construction section of ideological and political education of College English course in Jiangsu University.
Wu’s talk won high praise from the audience. Professor Xie Zhifang gave affirmation of the construction and encouraged the faculty of College English teaching sections to keep on their work. The other two guests also showed their expectations of the new approach. The teaching salon was ended with warm applause of the attendees and would surely inspire all the College English teachers in their future work.
