On May 27, the Center for Faculty Development specially invited Lai Guoxiong, Design Director & Educational Technology Expert at Network Education College, South China Normal University to give a lecture to more than 120 faculty members of schools and colleges concerned. The title of Lai’s lecture is “Magical operation of promoting the faculty computerized teaching competition with high-quality PPT”. The activity was conducted to help JSU young faculty to quickly master the basic skills for classroom instruction, grasp the state-of-art teaching devices and promote their teaching effect and quality.
Lai Guoxiong revealed the common errors that would often appear in PPT production with a wealth of examples. He dwelled upon the commonly used PPT production skills, including the selection of colors, pictures, fonts, icons, animation, audio and video, and other elements. According to Lai, in the process of making PPT, “Pictures are better than tables, and tables are better than words"; the content in a page should not be so much, but be condensed instead; no so many colors are needed, but in harmony with each other; not so many animations should be included except when they are really needed. The PPT maker needs a clear head and a strong logic. Each time he performed a magic operation on the PPT, the audience would exclaim unanimously. During the course of training, Lai Guoxiong recommended a lot of practical resource websites to and shared a large number of templates with the trainees.
The participants in the training included both young faculty members in their assistantship period and key faculty members with plentiful experiences. All the teachers said they benefited a lot from the training. It is believed that this training will further promote the computerized teaching level of JSU faculty.
